Children are a Heritage

“Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.”
Psalm 127:3

My sweet Lily Grace; our little flower, the gift I didn’t know I wanted so badly. She, as each of my other children, has a piece of my heart within her.

Last night, that piece was almost shattered.

As we were winding down our night, the older ones were watching a movie, Lily and I were playing on the couch. She likes to stand in the corner of the couch and pull the pens out of the wooden box on the end table. We try not to let her often, as we don’t want any of the kids standing on the couch; but she was cute and so content I just let her be. I took my eyes off of her for one second, literally one second to look at the movie the kids were watching because they wanted me to see something Phineas and Ferb had done … that’s all it takes for disaster to occur.

One second can change your life.

Before I could even grab her she flipped over the couch, hit the table and fell to the floor—along with my heart.

I immediately swopped her up and began examining her, with tear filled eyes.

I felt like a failure, I had taken my eyes off of my sweet little flower, and she now lay screaming in my arms. What a terrible mother I must have been.

The enemy crept in and began screaming lies at me. “It’s your fault, you should have never taken your eyes off of her. She’s hurt because of you. You failed her.”

I became a blubbering mess, holding my sweet girl in my hands while tears streamed down my cheeks.

Then, just as He so beautifully does, the Lord came in and showed me the truth; through my precious son Jordon.

He came from the back room where he was playing the Wii, worried about the commotion that was happening. He came right up to me, laid his head on my shoulder and said, “It’s okay, it’s not your fault. Can I pray?”

I looked up at him with tear filled eyes, and smiled.

His strength was sufficient and it came at just the right time. He swooped me up as I had my precious little girl, and He held me closely. He used the hands of my sweet child to radiate His love.

The  most amazing part—Lily Grace wasn’t hurt. There was blood, tears and screaming, but she was fine. A small cut on her lip and that was it. No bruised face, no stitches necessary. I called my mom, a nurse, and had her walk me through what to look for and of course, I lost it on the phone with her. But, that was pure adrenaline; I had a peace that only came from His hands.

Thank you Lord, for these children you have entrusted me with. They fall, they get hurt, but you are loving and strong enough to sustain us through any trial.

“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17
