Older Women

Godly Relationships

I have so much circling in my head, it seems almost difficult to formulate a conscious thought…but we’ll see what happens {wink}

I’ve felt pulled to Titus a great deal lately. I am reminded each day how vital it is to a new Christian woman to have strong, faithful women around her. As I looked around my life almost a year ago, I realized I didn’t truly have many women in my life that wanted to help me grow in my faith. Now, some may say, “It’s your walk, you don’t need someone to ‘help’ you”. But, I would disagree with that.

“Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.”
Titus 2:3-5

This holds so many truths for me personally. I can hear Him shouting at me each time I read it.

It’s so instrumental in a new Christian’s walk to have women around her that build her up, encourage her, fellowship with her. For me personally, I am thirsting for strong women to come beside me. It’s truly what started my longing to begin my ministry.

I am most certainly not a mature Christian, as I’ve only been faithfully walking for 3 years, but the thirst inside of me is real, and my desire is to know Him better. I can read my Bible, and yes I gain serious insight from His words, but when you don’t grow up with ANY women that truly love the Lord with their whole heart, coming into His presence can be scary, overwhelming.

How do I learn to love my husband when I’ve never watched a loving relationship? How do I become self-controlled when I’ve never experienced control before? How do I learn to work at home when I have no model of a stay at home woman? These may be silly questions and I in no way mean to say that I am relying on the input of older women to determine my relationship with the Almighty. But, I am saying, that it is vital to strengthening me…in building me up.

When I realized there weren’t women around me that were an encouragement to me {or better, were seeking to have a relationship with me} I decided to step out on faith and begin forming relationships with women on my own; which is what started my ministry, Women Walking Upright. The women that have come into my life through this ministry have been important aspects to my growth. I know without a doubt that He sanctioned these relationships because He understood how deeply I needed them. I think Paul understood how important this principle was hence his writing. I believe the relationships that women have between one another is imperative to our growth in Him.

The relationships we have with people say so much about our love for the Lord. Relationships help us in so many different ways … from teaching, to laughing, to learning, to loving.

I long to be an encouragement, as well as be encouraged. I desire to fellowship and praise Him, providing a means for women to come together and fellowship together.

I urge you, if you are an older woman, come beside a new believer—encourage her. If there is a new woman at your church who is on fire for Christ, do not squash her thirst by no embracing her. You have no idea how important you may be to her walk upright.

And, if you are a new believer who is passionate about our Christ the Lord, seek out an older woman to learn from. Talk to her; ask her questions … build a relationship.

This is a dear sweet sister who I have grown to love, who has taught me so very much and I am so thankful to the Lord for bringing her into my life...
